Catching Up With Starlight Stage: July 2020 Edition

Starlight Stage is one of those games I feel like I’ve completed all my personal goals with. Every since I got limited Ranko, Nana, and Kanako I haven’t had much of a drive to play or even keep up with the game. But of course you say- free pulls? Such a simple (and devious) way to wrap me up once again.

My First 24 Hours With Ensemble Stars!! Music

Ensemble Stars! is a series I’ve dabbled with over the years. A male-centric idol series that started off way back in 2015 as a spin off of the now defunct Ensemble Girls it became wildly popular in comparison. You are a transfer student at Yumenosaki academy to produce a group of idols to stardom. It had a ton of fun character designs and a bunch of interesting stories, but I never quite got into it the way other fans did.

Ensemble Stars!! release special song to celebrate 5th anniversary ...

Way back when the original app was for lack of a better term a point and click game. You tapped the screen and scouted for cards. It had the usual events where you rank for a pretty five-star card like all the other idol games, though it lacked a rhythm element that would make the series truly engaging to me. It got an anime in due time after being delayed for what felt like forever. As the series grew and began to release more music and merchandise, it was inevitable they would cash in on the rhythm game trend at some point in time.

Now in 2020 the game is split into two different apps- the “basic” app where you play the old game and tap on the screen, and the “music” app where you tap notes to music ala every other mobile idol game out there. Today I finally decided to download Ensemble Stars!! (with two exclamation points!! don’t forget it!) Music.

Theater Days Third Anniversary Triple Threat

There’s something about revisiting a game just for your favorites that makes you feel alive again. It was inevitable that three of my favorite idols would make a comeback- Matsuri, Tomoka, and Miya just in time for the third anniversary of Million Live: Theater Days.

Once again, I find myself lost the world of idol games.

Here we go again

The day before Easter. Another day by any other account, and the days were already starting to blend together for me. It was that exact morning I was scrolling through twitter, and I saw the banner I feared.

Another SSR for Anna Mochizuki? I took a deep breath. I had been saving in this game for a long time now not knowing what I would use my gems on and this was a sign from the higher powers. The last FES banner was good to me with a ton of free pulls, but I didn’t get characters I really cared for (sorry Karen).

I love these games, I really do. My reaction though? Fear.

But you should save them for a limited SSR or milifes, I think to myself. She’s just a perm. You can ticket her in a few months.

You see, this SSR is different. Do you see this?

I had the figure for this one. So I needed it in the game too.

Luck Post!

Took a gamble on the limited box in Starlight Stage after a few drinks and…

LIMITED FUCKING SHIKI BABY!!!! Man. The loading screen took a good while so I knew I was getting at least one SSR, but I was pleasantly surprised since I really like limited Shiki’s dress. It’s also something I would wear in real life, so this was a win/win situation.

LIMITED MINAMI? This was a nice surprise! I have absolutely zero cards of Minami and even though she’s not one of my top girls, she’s part of the original Cinderella Girls so she’s near and dear to my heart at this point. She’s animated which I should have noticed by the sparkles (and you know, when the card blinked at me) but alas.

Spending Quality Time With the Girls: A More In-Depth Look at Love Live! School Idol Festival All Stars

A few days have passed since I’ve started playing All Stars and I can honestly say that I play this game for two hours at a time or not at all. It’s very grindy and I do appreciate that!

First things first, let me say. I roasted the graphics a bit in my first post but when you play a live with the full stage and lighting effects (which is rare early in the game since it’s saved for the big performances also known as hard difficulty songs) it’s downright astounding. No more boring stage with ugly purple curtains. Now we have animated backgrounds, lights matching the idol’s image colors, and even props on the stage. Honestly if the game started out this pretty, I would have been hooked sooner!

This is how things should look.

Of course, you only see this on high level lives. I was so shook at how pretty the music video was I really thought I was dreaming since I was playing late into the night. You can also view the music videos for the songs regardless of which difficulties you have cleared, so go wild. The audience’s penlights also change depending on your center.
